FBR Tax Calendar 2025-26: Important Dates You Shouldn't Miss
Tax compliance in Pakistan isn't a single once-a-year event — it's a series of deadlines spread across the fiscal year, and missing the smaller ones (quarterly advance tax, monthly sales tax returns) often causes more compounding trouble than people expect from the annual return deadline alone.
The fiscal year itself
Pakistan's tax year runs from July 1 to June 30 — so "tax year 2025-26" covers income earned between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, with the annual return for that period typically due later in the following calendar year.
Annual income tax return deadline
For most individuals, the standard due date for filing the annual income tax return falls on September 30 following the end of the tax year, though FBR frequently issues extensions of a few weeks in practice. Companies generally follow a different deadline tied to their financial year-end. Always confirm the current year's exact deadline through FBR's official notifications rather than assuming last year's date repeats exactly.
Quarterly advance tax installments
Business individuals, AOPs, and companies above certain income thresholds are required to pay advance tax in quarterly installments throughout the year, based on estimated annual income, rather than settling the full amount at annual filing. These installments generally fall due in September, December, March, and June — missing any of them can trigger additional charges even if your final annual figure, once filed, turns out accurate.
Monthly sales tax returns
If you're registered for federal GST or provincial sales tax on services, monthly returns are due shortly after the end of each month, regardless of whether you had any sales activity — a "nil return" still needs to be filed on time to avoid accumulating penalties for non-filing.
Withholding tax statements
Businesses that withhold tax from payments made to contractors, employees, or suppliers are required to file periodic withholding tax statements, along with depositing the withheld amounts with FBR within specified timeframes — generally monthly, though the exact cadence depends on the category of withholding.
Zakat deduction date
If you hold eligible bank accounts, compulsory zakat deduction under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance occurs on the first of Ramadan each year, unless you've filed a formal exemption declaration with your bank ahead of that date.
A simplified compliance checklist
- Monthly — sales tax returns (if registered), withholding tax statements and deposits (if applicable)
- Quarterly (Sep/Dec/Mar/Jun) — advance tax installments for qualifying businesses and individuals
- Ramadan (1st) — compulsory zakat deduction from eligible bank accounts
- September 30 (typically) — annual income tax return deadline, subject to possible extension
Use the calculators to prepare, not just to file
Before each deadline, run your numbers through the relevant calculator — income tax, sales tax, withholding tax, or advance tax — so you're arriving at the filing deadline with an expected number already in hand, rather than discovering your liability for the first time when IRIS calculates it for you.
